Manchester Glory

Designed by:  Rose Studios

The framed medallion or central medallion quilt style is believed to have originated in England or with the Dutch, and was popular from the 1780s through the first half of the 19th Century.  Characteristically, the central focal point of the quilt is surrounded by borders and blocks which compliment and frame the center. The traditional English medallion quilt is one of the earliest known quilting styles. While many of these quilts have appliqué or pieced centers, fabric manufacturers quickly learned sometime around 1780 that quilt makers would purchase pre-printed panels as the central element for their quilt. It wasn't long before they also printed complimentary fabrics and borders which could be used to frame the printed medallion piece.

Our Manchester Glory Collection was inspired by a quilt which was made around 1820 in England. It is believed that the fabrics in the quilt are all of English origin. As Manchester was at the forefront of England's industrial and textile glory days in the 19th Century, we feel it a tribute to honor this important textile heritage with this group of designs.

Printed center antique medallion quilts are rare and thus, are prized possessions in quilt collections today. Through this collection, Blue Hill inspires us to create medallion masterpieces of our own to enjoy, as well as to perpetuate the heritage of the printed panel quilt.

I am looking for quilt panels infant to full, queen or king size, or squares to be sewed together to make any size quilt. I am open to any and all suggestions.
How much are your panels that you have on display?
    Thank you. JoAnne Johnsone

Beautiful. I've ordered these pieces, but I can't get a copy of the pattern. It comes up and immediately disappears. These goods are to be shipped soon and I need to get exact yardages so I can sew the sample as soon as fab arrives. Could you please jpg me a picture of the quilt? I can figure everything out from there.
